After having achieved great popularity with Wagle Ki Duniya years ago on the national pubcaster, well-known TV, stage and film actor Aanjjan Srivastav is all set to don a common man avatar again in Doordarshan’s show Detective Wagle.
Confirming the same, Aanjjan said, “We will start shooting for Detective Wagle from 22 September (2012) and this bi-weekly will start airing in November every Wednesday and Thursday at 9.30 p. I will not be playing a professional detective, but someone who is there to merely solve societal issues and take up the cudgels on their behalf.”

Elaborating about his character, Aanjjan observed, “It is fun to revisit a character similar to that in Wagle Ki Duniya. Even after trying a lot, I have not been able to come out of that image. And I hope that this TV show will one day be made into a film.”
Why is it not a daily? “For then, it would have become a mess as you would require too many plots and sub-plots,” said the veteran actor.
This new show is creating a sort of complication for Aanjjan as it requires him to be clean shaven while he had grown a moustache for his character in Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha (Colors). “Let’s see how we deal with the hairy issue?,” he laughed.
On a more serious note, Aanjjan is surprised that such a progressive Sunshine Productions’ show about widow re-marriage is not getting the proper rating. “Wherever we go, people tell us that they watch our show. In a message to me, even Smriti Irani praised our efforts; she makes it apoint to regularly check out our episodes. TRP is a game played by big corporate,” he observed.
Aanjjan also has a grouse against the media for not writing much about shows which air on the national pubcaster. “You guys only focus on satellite channels while lots of good shows on DD are just ignored,” he remarked.
Well…here you go…Aanjjan!!!
