Actor Rakesh Diwana’s family eagerly ‘wait’ for justice

The sudden death of actor Rakesh Diwana had pushed his family to the edge of sorrow. The family can now breathe a sigh of relief with notices being issued to doctors.
Rakesh Diwana

It’s been two long years since actor Rakesh Diwana breathed his last, after a bariatric surgery was conducted on him at the Mohak Hi-Tech Speciality Hospital in Indore by Dr. Mohit Bhandari. He was better known as Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hain’s ‘Maharajji’..

The unfortunate death of the actor that happened in April 2014 came across as a huge shock to his family, comprising of three young daughters and a son. The family had then moved the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC) in Delhi with a complaint alleging medical negligence, deficiency in service and unfair trade practices.

The complaint stated that Diwana died due to ‘gross medical negligence’, and that the deceased was not fit to undergo a bariatric surgery.

Well now, two years after the unfortunate incident took their father away from them, Diwana’s family can breathe a sigh of relief.

Now, as per the reports that are out in the media, the NCDRC bench comprising presiding member Justice Ali Bharihoke and member Dr. SM Kantikar have issued notices to Dr. Bhandari, Mohak Hi-Tech Speciality Hospital and chief anesthesiologist Dr. Bipin Arya.

When contacted, Richa Diwana, the actor’s eldest daughter told us, “It was a very big shock for all of us when we lost our father. With our mother not alive, we lost our only bread winner at a very young age. Yes, it is true that we had moved the NCDRC bench in Delhi. Now, we are glad that notices have been issued against the doctor. We have done our research well and are very sure that our father died due to medical negligence. Now we wait for the case to appear in court.”

Diwana, as we know, was known for his performance as Maharajji in the popular ongoing show of Director’s Kut on Star Plus, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. He has also been part of TV shows Alif Laila, Ramayan, Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, and the movies Veer and Rowdy Rathore.

Let justice prevail....
