Sony Entertainment Television’s popular weekend courtroom drama Adaalat (produced by Contiloe Telefilms) starring Ronit Roy is up for a timeslot change. From June 1 2012, it will air at 7.30pm instead of 8pm. The change has been made to accommodate the upcoming season of Indian Idol which is hitting the screens from June 1 at 8.30pm onwards every Friday and Saturday.
Business Head of Sony, Sneha Rajani confirmed the development and said that the timeslot change would not affect the numbers of the show “if you have loyal audiences.” Producer Abhimanyu Singh also seconded Sneha’s views by statig, “The channel must have taken the above decision only after a proper market research.”
However, another Sony official, who chose to be anonymous, said any timeslot alteration does have some effect on the TRPs. Readers will remember when Dekha Ek Khwaab and Saas Bina Sasural’s timings were shunted, their numbers saw a dip.
That fear notwithstanding the consistent good ratings of the show (1.8) has prompted the channel to extend Adaalat’s contract by another 104 episodes. Ronit Roy aka K D Pathak confirmed the same in a text message.
On the other hand, Abhimanyu feels, “Interesting cases and KD’s characterization have contributed to the success of the show. Some big ticket developments are in the pipeline in the upcoming episodes, but I can’t talk about them right now.”
