Chandana Sharma is back on the small screen with a new show titled Love Ne Milla Di Jodi on Star One. "I am playing the role of Damini Gujral, a career woman who runs her family business. She has two sisters and is very protective about them. Damini adores her mother and doesn’t believe in love and focusses all her energies on her career and sisters. And, last but not the least, Damini hates men," explains Chandana with a smile on her face.
Chandana's popularity skyrocketed after she played the role of Tara in Yeh Dil Chahe More and the actress is facing the camera almost after a year. Why such a long break? "There is only one reason -- I was not getting any good roles!" says a frank Chandana. "I have never run after fame and money and have always been very choosy about my work. The last year was no exception. I like to be happy with what I am doing," says Chandana.
"But I did not waste the last year. I have learned painting and pottery and also did some work for stray dogs. I volunteered for many stray dogs and took them to hospitals for injections. I am a pet lover and have two dogs and two cats at home," says the actress who is all set to get married next year to Ramandeep Arya, director of her earlier travel show Musafir Hoon Yaaron.
What is so special with the new role that made her say Yes? "I have always played the girl-next-door and this role was completely different from everything I have done so far. Damini is a complete tomboy. I had to even learn horse riding for this role! I hope I can deliver something new and unique through this character," explains the actress who hails from a filmy family in West Bengal.
Her mother Anjana Bhowmik was a very popular and talented Bengali film actress who did a number of films with superstar Uttam Kumar. Chandana’s sister Nilanjana Sharma is also an actress and we have seen her in Hip Hip Hooray,/em>. Nilanjana is married to a Bengali actor Jishu Sengupta. "I guess acting is in my genes! My mother will be more happy if I act in Bengali films," says Chandana. Incidentally she had also acted in a Bengali film in 2004.
