Episodics are like surprise tests while dailies are semesters - Sehban Azim

Sehban Azim
The very good looking actor Sehban Azim who has made a mark in shows like Dill Mill Gaye and Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai is of the opinion that both daily soaps and episodics have their own pros and cons and it is very difficult to judge them. The actor who was recently seen in episodics of MTV Webbed and Yeh Hai Aashiqui avers, “Firstly as an actor all you want is to do good work and thus balancing both acts is important. Also the role offered in the show and the team are taken into consideration before one signs on a show.” Talking about daily shows, the actor explains, “In dailies you know what your character is and what you are supposed to do over a period of time. The flow is the same for at least sometime; so you get enough time to build on your character. Also coming and shooting at the same set with the same people makes way for a great bonding and you become like a family. Having said this, the negative aspect will be that sometimes it just gets tiring playing the same character for a long time. We as actors want to try variations and that’s lacking in dailies.” So do you get more privileges in episodic stories? “Yes, in episodes you have to portray variant shades in just 45 minutes. And when you see your work you actually feel good that you have done such a great job. As for the low points, there is time and budget crunch and thus you have to adjust a lot. You have to work like a machine and get into transitions in a short span of time. There’s no fixed script and order and thus it can get difficult to perform in the same manner.” So which one is better – dailies or episodics we ask him to which he smilingly replies, “Episodes are like a surprise test, whereas TV serials are like semesters. Both are very different, yet as an actor your job remains the same - to perform. I feel one should try to dabble both to learn the nuances of both and help build your graph well.” Well said, Sehban!
