Female adulation is quite flattering: Sumeet Vyas

The talented and ever loving Sumeet Vyas gets talking with Tellychakkar about his writing and acting career
Sumeet Vyas

Actor par excellence and someone who you can talk to for hours- that’s how Sumeet Vyas can be best described.

From being just another actor, his stint in Permanent Roommates (TVF) made him a star on the internet. From Permanent Roommate 2 to Tripling, the guy is on a high. Apart from acting, Sumeet has also successfully penned down scripts for Tripling and Bang Bajaa Baraat. He has also been part of movies like English Vinglish, Arakshan among more.

Currently shooting for a film with Kalki Koechlin, we recently got talking to him for a fun conversation. The actor confided in us that being an actor has helped him write better. “It plays an important part in storytelling as you know what you want on screen. I love the field of acting more but definitely enjoy both.”

With Sumeet becoming an internet sensation, we wondered if he loves all the adulation. Laughingly he shared, “Its fun but I don’t take it all too seriously. I love the fact that people are watching my work and it motivates me to work more. The love makes me proud of the work that I have done and it feels great that people are now open to newer content.”

Talking about the rise of web series, the actor stated, “The democracy of entertainment medium is working really well for web series. The best part is that shows on internet don’t require stars. If people find connect, they will surely stay hooked to it, be it on phone or their computers. The market has opened up and I feel it is a lovely medium and big players too want to join the fun now.”

Although he has been part of TV shows like Laut Aao Trisha and Palkon Ki Chaaon Mein, Sumeet is not too keen to settle in the small screen space. “I would not like to judge shows on TV as I am not comfortable with them. Neither do I watch them nor will I ever be able to personally make those. I fit much into the shorter format and am open to work for serials that don’t last for more than a year.”

Stating that he is sick of playing the ‘nice guy’, the actor expressed the thought to experiment and play grey characters on screen. He also felt that he is not as funny as his characters. “I won’t say I am a very serious guy but I do not talk much. I am definitely not someone who cracks jokes every time. I am not like Mikesh (his character in Permanent Roommates) at all. He is too cute and so he’s not me.”

But being the writer, we wondered if it also affected his performance as an actor. “It was the first time I was doing both. It does take a toll as it’s hard to let go. If things don’t go as you planned while writing, you tend to get a little disturbed and it does affect your overall performance.”

Sumeet, who is married to popular actress Shivani Tanksale said that the two are like any other couple and do not believe in flaunting their relationship. When we asked him if the women’s attention makes him happy, he shyly smiled to say, “It is indeed flattering. I have been a fat kid and so much attention makes me blush.”

Way to go Sumeet!
