He is tall, handsome and a wrestler who has brought glory to India. In the small screen space, he gained fame as a contestant in Star Plus’ Survivor India. This was the series where he met his lady love, Payal Rohatgi.
Yes, we are talking about the ever talented and versatile Sangram Singh. And today, we are here to announce that Singh is further spreading his wings by entering the world of celluloid.
“Sangram has been roped in to play the lead in a biopic being made on late Dara Singh,” said a source.
Wow…indeed good news for his fans!!!
These days, making of biopics have become a rage with films like Paan Singh Tomar and The Dirty Picture doing considerably well at the box office.
Following up, this year will see the release (12 July) of Mikha Singh biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and one on the life of Mary Kom that has Priyanka Chopra playing the lead.
Now…comes a biopic on Dara Singh. We all know that Sangram bagged the World's Best Professional Wrestler Award in 2012 among several other honours already in his kitty.
Tellychakkar.com got in touch with Sangram and asked him details of the upcoming biopic. Without naming the producer or the production house, the wrestler said, “Look, I cannot reveal the name of the producer right away as the formal announcement about the film is still to be made and I have signed a non-disclosure agreement with them.”
Though a tad reluctant to divulge details on the venture, Sangram did go on to compare two stalwarts from the world of sports, namely Milkha Singh and Dara Singh.
“Milkha is in news these days as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has been made on his life and there is a lot of buzz around it. However, Dara Singh has always been a legendary figure, both in India and abroad. My film would be made on a much larger scale than the one on Milkha Singh.”
Did he ever think that he would play Dara Singh in his life? “For this, I have to take you back to my childhood days when I used to practice wrestling. Others around used to make fun of me saying ‘Dekh Dara Singh aaya’. Though I knew that I had to be a wrestler, I never thought that I could be as popular as Dara Singh since I used to sport a lean figure then,” he avers.
In the later part of his life, Dara Singh started acting in films and then switched on to television. Will that part also be shown in the biopic? “Yes definitely, the film will show the great wrestler of the land in all the spheres he touched till the end of his life. But yes, I am pretty excited to play the great wrestler on screen,” Sangram adds.
But Dara Sigh was a much heavier person. What is Sangram doing about it? “Yes, definitely Dara Singh was a much heavier person. So, right now I am on a weight gaining spree,” he laughingly quips.
We wish him all the luck and success!!!
