Stand-up comedian and singer Sugandha Mishra has become the talk of the town after her latest mimicry act on Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar at the 7th Royal Stag Mirchi Music Awards.
It seems the mockery on this legendary singer didn’t go down well with Lataji’s fans. Apart from her fans, singers namely Alka Yagnik and Lalit Pandit also felt that the legendary lady was disrespected. But there was also a section who applauded Sugandha for her mimicry skills.
We buzzed Sugandha and asked her thoughts on whether it was correct on her part to mimic a respectable figure.
She shared, “Firstly, I think people should develop a sense of humour. I don’t think I disrespected or dishonored Lataji. I adore her a lot and have grown up admiring her. Mimicry is a art form. Mimicry is no harm but If I would have sung badly, I would have been at fault.”
She continued: “Back in time when I was in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, I had mimicked Lataji and after that episode she texted me saying she loved my act. And in today’s time every artist imitates each other but that doesn’t mean he or she disgraces the person. The mimicry was a tribute to her.”
So how would you greet Lataji when you meet her for the next time? “I will touch her feet and take blessings,” she ended.
