I had to work hard to create cuteness and honesty in Chintu: Aru K Verma on his Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji character

 Aru K Verma

MUMBAI: Actor Aru K Verma has entertained the masses with his stint in films like 2 States, Jab Harry Met Sejal, and Wedding Pullav. He was also part of the show Begusarai and is now enthralling viewers with his cute character of Chintu in Star Plus’ Dil Toh Happy Hai Ji.

Aru spoke to TellyChakkar about his character, similarities he shares with his role, his idea of happiness, and more.

Is there any resemblance between Chintu and Aru?

Well, in certain ways, I am like Chintu, and in certain ways, I am not. Where I really relate with Chintu is that we are both the eldest in the family and take responsibilities seriously. Both are family oriented and at the same time have a serious approach towards life. I love Chintu for the character he is, but I am happy I am not Chintu. He is shy, innocent, and naïve, whereas I’m not.

Any interesting incident from the set?

It was difficult for me to romanticize in front of the camera, as it is a genre I always wanted to explore, so it actually took me a lot of time to get my first take right. I wanted to give my best shot so that people could relate to innocent love and not a matured look that people usually give to each other in a relationship. Innocent love was something I really had to work hard to create and get that cuteness and honesty alive for Chintu.

We really have a lot of fun on sets. Ansh and I love playing pranks on people and enjoy talking to the whole cast and crew. We have a bunch of passionate actors. So it’s lovely to interact with all of them.

You played a negative lead in your last project and are playing a positive lead now. What do you enjoy more?

I love doing different characters and creating something different every time. In Jab Harry Met Sejal, I was playing a street-smart friend; here, I am playing a totally innocent and honest guy. So the contrast is amazing and intrigues me as an actor. I want to do different roles, differently! I want to create something new every time. I have been blessed and lucky in this regard so far. So let’s see.

How content and positive are you in life?

I am always positive, mostly because of my family but never content. I think my ambitions always get the better of me. I constantly push myself to do more and more. Sometimes, that works against me, but that’s what always pushes and motivates me.

This show is about spreading happiness. Do you believe in spreading happiness?

I think every person has seen good and bad times in life. My younger sister once told me at one of my lowest points, ‘Bhaiya wakt to katna hai, to ro ke kyun? There is no point in feeling sad. Be happy and things will work out.’ I remember this, because that was the turning point, where I just told myself to be positive and spread as much love as possible. I love being happy, and even if I can share a small percentage of it, I will never back down.

What makes your dil happy the most?

The smirky smile on my mother’s face, when she says that I know you have done it but koi na, I won’t take your case. So getting away with things with a smile from mom is the best.

Any other projects in the pipeline?

There are a couple in the near future, but I won’t be able to talk much about it at this point of time, due to confidentiality issues, but I will definitely let you know once I am allowed to talk about it.
