Indrani Haldar deeply grieved by filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh's untimely demise

Veteran film and TV actress Indrani Haldar who is currently playing Leena in Life OK’s Savitri (Flying Turtle Films) had acted in the film Dahan and the serial Bahanno Episode that the late maverick filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh had directed. She is naturally deeply grieved by his death. He passed away yesterday (30 May 2013). She had met him for the first time in 1995, for the filming of the serial Bahanno Episode. Indrani informs us, “He had known me from before. He had wanted to work with me which is why he cast me in the TV show. Dahan happened a year after that. He was an excellent director and I won the National Award for the Best Actress for the film.” Did she keep in touch with him after that? “Yes, I would frequently meet him at various places in Kolkata. He was a great human being. Later when I shifted work base to Mumbai, we kept in touch through text messages. He had wanted to work with me in future. The last time I had met him was last November at the International Film Festival in Kolkata.” On a concluding note she told us, “He understood women psychology so well. In fact, he understood women better than women usually understand themselves. After Satyajit Ray, he is the one who had put Bengali Cinema in the map of the world market. All big stars including Amitabh Bachchan were ready to work with him. Indeed his demise is a great loss to Bengali and Indian cinema.” May his soul rest in peace.
