MUMBAI: Jaan Kumar Sanu was in the news during Bigg Boss 14 because of the nepotism debate and his closeness with Nikki Tamboli. He reveals that he faced rejections because of being Kumar Sanu's son. People thought that he was born with a silver spoon and does not need to struggle as opportunities walk up to him. Read on for excerpts.

I love my dad. Apart from Kumar Sanu, he is my father and there’s nothing but I have just love for my dad. Whatever has happened and if we sit and think about it, it is just going to create a very negative and toxic atmosphere. I believe in letting bygones be bygones. Recently, when I sang my dad’s song on Father’s Day, he reacted to my post on Instagram. It was a very daring step for me to sing my father’s songs. But the fact that he loved it so much and commented on my post, it feels good. Honestly, I have never asked my father for any kind of help. As an artist I’ve asked my dad for guidance and he has always been there for me. Personal growth wise my father has been there for me to help me in singing whenever I’ve needed any tips or how I should sing a particular song, he has always helped. But when it comes to work purposes I’ve never taken his help.

To be honest with you all this nepotism debate has been following me since the Bigg Boss but all I want to say is that if I would have been a product of nepotism, I would have been one of the biggest names in the singing industry. I would have a lot of songs, movies with the top stars of our country. But in reality I am earning my daily bread just like any ordinary person does. In fact, I would say I am struggling double the efforts put by any normal person because I am Kumar Sanu’s son.

People think that I am born with a silver spoon and everything comes to me easy but that’s not the case. Honestly, trust me it’s been much more difficult. I can’t talk about other people, I can talk about myself. Because I am so and so’s son, people think that this guy was born with a silver spoon and he has got a lot of work. So why to help someone who’s already so privileged. Let’s give someone else a chance and that has worked against me for so many years. I’ve been rejected by people even before they have heard me singing. They have not heard me and have just assumed that I must be having a lot of work. I am fighting against it and trying to prove myself.

Now, people know things have changed a little. I would not say things have completely changed because people still think I’ve a lot of work. Some doors are open and people are ready to give me the opportunity to at least come and meet them which I am really glad about. I learnt one thing very early on in my life that if you don’t get rejected, you are not doing something right. I feel rejection is the biggest stepping stone and path of success. Before Bigg Boss I’ve assisted a lot of people and I’ve never got an opportunity to sing for someone and I’ve never taken it to heart. I feel Arijit Singh’s struggle story is the biggest example for our generation.
