The key to success, and TRPs, lie in reality shows. Sahara One reaped the benefits of it with Biggest Loser Jeetega. They now aim to raise the bar higher with the launch of their new reality show 'Jjhoom India which goes on air from 27th October. The bi-weekly show will telecast every Friday and Saturday at 9.00 pm.
Jjhoom India is a musical reality show wherein a pair of a professional singer and an actor will compete with nine others to win the coveted title. The 10 jodis will be judged by the public and a eminent jury panel comprising of Shabana Azmi, Mahesh Bhatt and Anandji. Singer Rahul Vaidya of India Idol fame and telly actress Sucheta Khanna are the anchors.
Every week the judges select the top 3 pairs following an SMS poll. The third pair shall nominate the 4th pair and the fourth pair selects the 5th and so on. The last remaining pair gets eliminated.
The10 pairs are :- Shweta Tiwari-Suresh Wadkar, Sharad Kelkar-Vaishali Samant, Varun Badola-Akriti Kakkar, Roshni Chopra-Vinod Rathod, Mrinal Kulkarni-Sudesh Bhonsale, Shama Sikander-Zubin Garg, Sachin Tyagi-Madhushree, Shekhar Suman-Sanjeevani, Chavi Mittal-Jatin Pandit, Apara Mehta-Parthiv Gohil.
Sanjiv Sharma, CEO & Chairman, Optimystix says " JJhoom India is very much inspired by the Swedish show ' Stars on Stage. The USP of this is show lies in the fact that the untrained voices, who are stars in their own right, have the courage to appear on national TV and sing together will an acclaimed singer"
Programming head, Kalyan Sundaram adds "The real drama will stem from the fact as to how will a singer and an actor co-exist together. Ego clashes are likely to occur especially when a singer blames the actor for their poor performance. These singers are thorough professionals and aren't likely to err much. So, how will an actor react to criticism from his singer partner?
On paper, actor Shekhar Suman and Sanjeevani are the favourites as the former has experience in singing. However, Sanjeevani begs to differ, "Shekhar has great knowledge of music but he isn't a professional singer. This contest is about duet singing, so it's very much a challenge for both of us to perform together"
Akriti Kakkar, had this to say on her actor partner Varun Badola "Varun is an extremely hard working guy. Once he picks upon something, he'll go to any lengths to complete it. Often, he gets too possessive. Both of us have a liking for old songs but Varun is very uncomfortable in singing new songs. I'm a versatile singer thus it's my responsibility to make him feel comfortable"
At the moment, the contestants are singing praises of each other, but expect them to sing a different tune if their surs don't match.
