MUMBAI: This weekend, Indian Idol celebrates ‘Rock On with Farhan,’ a special episode marking 25 glorious years of Farhan Akhtar. Amid the musical nostalgia, contestant Abhishek Kumar delivered a breathtaking rendition of “O Rangreza” from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, leaving the judges and audience spellbound.
Shreya Ghoshal was visibly moved by the performance. “I’m searching for the right words to describe you and your performance but truly, there are no adjectives that can do it justice,” she said. “It was a dignified and deeply moving performance. We have heard so many people singing this and we ourselves sung it so many times. O Rangrez song, composed so beautifully by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy — this song is timeless, eternal. And you delivered it with such grace and ease; it felt effortless. I’m genuinely moved. What we are doing here is not judging, but appreciating music.
Whatever we are doing here is right. You are a ray of hope.”
Farhan Akhtar, equally impressed, added, “It feels as though this song was made just for you. Shreya originally sang it so beautifully, why don’t you join him for this one right now? I want to hear this in your voice too.”
The duo then shared a magical moment on stage. Overwhelmed, Shreya exclaimed, "Please send me this clip immediately! I want to share it with Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. They’ll be so happy to hear this.”
Such praise from Shreya, especially her wish to send the clip to the legendary composers, highlights Abhishek’s extraordinary potential. His soulful rendition perfectly matched the nostalgic theme of Yaadon Ki Playlist, breathing new life into a timeless classic.
