MUMBAI: As the world celebrates World Television Day, actor and director Srman Jain takes a nostalgic walk down memory lane, reflecting on how the medium shaped his creative identity. Known for his memorable performances in shows like Saas Bina Sasural, Adaalat, and Mere Angne Mein, Srman shares that television has been nothing short of a lifelong classroom for him.
“Television gave me my first stage, my first audience, and my first sense of belonging,” he smiles. “I started working when I was barely 18, and this industry taught me everything from discipline to emotional endurance. It’s not just work; it’s been my playground where I’ve grown, stumbled, and evolved.”
Having spent years navigating the unpredictable tides of the entertainment world, Srman admits that the journey wasn’t always smooth. “I started so young that I was stuck in between neither a child actor nor a mature lead. That image stayed with me for years, and breaking it was a process,” he reflects. “But I never let that define me. Every project, big or small, added to my experience.”
After years in front of the camera, Srman decided to explore storytelling from another lens — direction. He shares, “Directing keeps my creative side alive until I act again. It allows me to channel my thoughts and emotions differently. I think being on both sides of the camera has made me a better artist overall.”
Talking about the importance of television, Srman emphasizes how powerful and formative the medium truly is. “People often treat TV as a stepping stone to films or OTT, but that’s not fair. Television reaches millions of homes every day it shapes emotions, connects hearts, and gives you unmatched recognition,” he explains. “If you respect the medium, it gives you everything back.”
On this Television Day, Srman leaves an inspiring message for young actors, “Television isn’t just a job it’s a journey of learning and giving. It tests your patience, challenges your consistency, and teaches you humility. If you stay true to your craft, the audience will stay true to you.”
From an enthusiastic teenager to an established actor-director, Srman Jain’s journey is proof that passion and persistence are what keep the lights of television shining bright.
