The idea of "consummation" has always been an integral part of TV programming

A page from the personal diary of Saurabh Tewari I visited the office of Tellychakkar.com as a guest editor. And I thought I should use this space to share my thoughts on the changing trends and the latest happenings in the Hindi television industry. One disturbing or rather concerning development has been shows going off air within months of their launch. The thing is that the number of people making shows has increased. A channel is big enough to take a financial hit but not producers. I think in the future producers should come together and talk to the channel officials that a show once commissioned, must remain on air for at least 100 episodes. Furthermore, a producer will have a complete control, on his or her show, for the period of initial three months. This way one will get the time to deal and nurture the content of the show aptly. I think many will agree with me on this. Moving on, there was a lot of buzz when Sakshi (Tanwar) and Ram (Kapoor) kissed and consummated on the small screen. But as a creative person who has been associated with the medium for a long time now, consummation has always been the TRP driving factor for all shows. I conceptualized the concept of Uttaran from Kamasutra and depicted it in a subtle vein. No one understood it. Now if you see, each and every show is dealing with the issue of consummation. People won’t see the actors making love on screen, but they love to see the moments that lead to a consummation sequence. Now, about Imagine TV shutting down, where I was appointed as the Programming Head, I felt really bad for all those who lost their jobs overnight. A channel shutting down is a bad news for everyone. Finally, please watch my upcoming show on Colors Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junnon airing from 28 May (2012). We have put in a lot of effort behind it and the soap stars Vivian Dsena and Drashti Dhami. The scale of the show is big and we are sure that TV viewers will enjoy it. Cheers!!!
