The sad part about television is that nobody wants to experiment - Soni Singh

Soni Singh
Actress Soni Singh has mastered the craft of playing the ‘baddie’ on television to the ‘T’. The girl who has earlier done shows like Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan, Teen Bahuraniyan, Jhansi Ki Rani, Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya, Yeh Ishq Haaye to name a few presently essays the role of Kalika in Star Plus’ Saraswatichandra (Sphere Origins). Talking about her role, Soni says, “Kalika is an interesting character as she gets the best of dialogues. The credit for this goes to the writers. Kalika’s sensuous and seductive side makes her different from all the characters I have played so far. Having said this, my character of Menka in Pratigya has been my best so far as she had the Bhojpuri dialect, and was a loud character. But as Kalika I am happy to show my sensuous side. She is the childhood love of Pramad (Aanshul Trivedi), and Pramad feels that Kalika loves him. However, I have an eye on his property and from childhood, have loved to live a lavish life. I maintain a strong hold on Pramad by showing off my sensuous side.” Talking about the change in production house and rumours of the show going off air, Soni Singh avers, “Well, it was nice to work with SLB Productions, but they had a very different way of working. Sphere Origins is more professional in their approach, and it is always good to be professional. I have earlier worked with Sphere and have a good rapport with them.” On her co-actors in the show, the actress states, “It is a pleasure working with Gautam Rode. This is the first time I am working with Jenni (Jennifer Winget), and she is so nice a person. And Aanshul, I must say is a child in himself. Though he plays a very serious character, he is the typical mad boy on the sets.” Ask her whether she is not tired of playing the vamp in all her shows, she states, “Yes, I would love to do positive roles. In my long career, I have managed to do only two positive roles, that in Shakira and Betiyaan. But the sad part about television is that nobody wants to experiment. Once an actor is typecast in a negative role, they would not offer her any other role. Even though I would love to play a positive role, this is part of destiny. Having said this, I have it in me to justify the role I am playing.” Talking about her dream project, she explains, “Well, I will want to be part of a movie. I would not say I want to be seen in a big Yash Chopra movie. Movies like Gangs of Wasseypur wherein I get a decent role to play is what I am looking for.” Ask her about reality show aspirations and she is quick to say, “I came to Mumbai years back not to be become an actor. I wanted to become a choreographer, but destiny had other plans. I am a very good dancer, and would love to take part in a dance reality show.” Soni, we wish you all luck!!!
