The way web is growing, it's terrific: Sandiip Sikcand

MUMBAI: Sandiip Sikcand is a multi faceted personality of a kind! While he is much known for his association with Ekta Kapoor, Sandiip has made a name for himself as a producer and currently helms Sandiip Sikcand Private Limited. While his co-production, JuzzBaatt...Sangeen Se Namkeen Tak is set to premier on 5 May, the man gets chatty about his love for acting and his production venture. He is also the Creative Director for Balaji Telefilms' Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.

What is your first love- acting or behind the camera work?

I like to be the creator. I enjoy creating ideas and concepts the most. A producer has a vision, a director executes the vision, the actor plays his part but a creator sees through it all... he's a little bit of everything. An idea is a seed and a creator nurtures it till it grows into a tree.

You turned a producer with Dhhai Kilo Prem. Any other projects coming up on television?

Yes, I'm already working on an upcoming fiction show. Sandiip Sikcand Telefilms Pvt. Ltd. came into being last year. There's lot to expect and a lot for me to deliver. I'm a firm believer of God and will always be grateful for whatever I am today. There's no stopping. There are a multitude of ideas and many dreams. Like my last show that dealt with the stigma of body shaming, I want to send across a message and also strike a chord with the audiences on a real level through my shows.

What is your perception on the digital upgradation? Are you keen on experimenting with digital arena?

I'm in the nascent stage of a web show; its work is in progress. I've always liked the idea of content on a digital platform, the stories which you cannot tell on television, you can explore on the web. The way web is growing, it's terrific. It's like an investment you're making in the present for the future because digital is the future, or maybe already the present. The way the audiences are consuming content on the web, it's amazing and makers will explore the medium all the more.

Why a chat show - ‘JuzzBaatt’ - after a daily show?

I personally love non-fiction as a genre, I have worked on two such shows in the past, but my forte lies in fiction. As a maker, I don't want to be confined or restricted to a particular format. I want to work on short films, web series, feature films... we're in a creative field and sky is the limit. I helmed my production house last year and there's a lot I want to do. I have a 360 degree approach in terms of platforms I want to create content for.

What is the concept like and what is your viewpoint on the chat show?

As viewers and fans, people always like to know the other side of actors; when they're not facing the camera. Our show's format is as uncomplicated as it can be. It is an out and out candid tete-a-tete with actors and prominent faces from different walks of life, who will open up about their struggles, fears, insecurities, pain and everything else that the audiences are not privy to otherwise. Basically, the focus will be on stories that are very different from what you've read in newspapers and magazines.

Way to go, Sandiip!
