Amid the celebrations, an old yet significant chapter of Kohli’s journey has resurfaced — one that involves former RCB owner and business magnate Vijay Mallya. "Shortly after the formal selection process, I saw him playing in the Under-19 World Cup and was instantly impressed," Mallya revealed. "So I picked him. And look at where we are now — 18 years later, he's still there, still giving it his all. Back then, he was just a young kid bursting with energy and talent. Today, he's one of India’s greatest cricketers."

Vijay Mallya, who originally acquired the RCB franchise during the inaugural IPL season, played a key role in laying the foundation of the team before moving to London years later.

Now, with Kohli finally lifting the IPL trophy in 2025, Mallya’s early faith in a young and determined Virat has come full circle a story of vision, persistence, and glory nearly two decades in the making.
