Writer Sumrit Shahi gets candid about new show Bhalla Calling Bhalla

MUMBAI: Writer Sumrit Shahi is excited about his new show, Bhalla Calling Bhalla. The actor says that the show has been made in a very unique way since all the actors are stuck at home. "The most unique thing about Bhalla calling Bhalla is that it is a show that is completely being conceptualized, written, shot, edited and is presented to the audience during a lockdown. Like there was no set, no actors met each other, no directors. All of it has happened remotely so it is truly a new age technology experiment that we have done in this lockdown," he says.

Talking about his thought process behind writing the show, he says, "I think what I kept in mind while writing the show was that since we are going through such challenging and testing times and everyone’s patience is low and stress levels are so high, everyone is so worried and so uncertain. I just wanted a show that feels warm, fuzzy, easy to understand and most importantly to bring a smile on everyone’s face that has been the endeavor behind the show. The story is about a disfunctional Punjabi family and how they actually are not together in the lockdown. But somehow the lockdown will help them come together."

Sumrit has been involved in multiple projects right before the lockdown. "My last project was Never Kiss Your Best Friend with ZEE5. After that, I have been doing a couple of shows right now which because the lockdown obviously are in different stages. My show for Alt Balaji DevDd2 was already on floors when lockdown happened. I am also doing two-three other projects for them. Then there was a movie also I was in talks for, so a lot has been happening," he says.

The writer adds that he loves the casting of the show too. "The casting is very interesting. These are people I look upto in terms of comedy, who are involved and I was very excited their casting. The whole idea was to bring a set of people who bring in the positivity. I think all these actors contribute towards that because all of them are amazing people who have done some great work. They will all tickle everyone’s funny bone, so yes everyone will like the show," he says.
