MUMBAI: Actress Samridhii Shukla, who is currently seen in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, opens up about men’s emotional well-being ahead of International Men’s Day and shares a gentle yet powerful message about the importance of acknowledging men’s mental health.

Speaking about the subject, Shukla exclusively told TellyChakkar, “Men’s mental health is still not spoken about enough. Many times, men are expected to stay quiet and continue with their work even when they are struggling inside.” She explains that while people easily notice when a woman feels overwhelmed, men are often assumed to be “strong enough” to handle everything silently. She adds that this silence keeps men from learning how to express their emotions or seek help. “Mental health has no gender,” she emphasises. “Men deserve the same softness and safe space.”

Reflecting on whether men today express vulnerability more openly, she says, “I think men share a little more than before, at least with the people they trust. But many still hesitate because they fear looking weak.” According to her, society still teaches boys not to cry or show fear, and these outdated beliefs follow them into adulthood. “If we react with kindness when a man opens up, it will make him feel safer,” she says.

Talking about the kind of support men truly need, she adds, “Men need people who listen without judging or giving quick advice.” She points out that many men avoid opening up even to their families because they feel they must always be the ‘strong one.’ She stresses that therapy should be normalised for men instead of being treated as something to hide.

On the subject of equality, Samridhii believes emotional equality should also be part of the conversation. She says, “True equality means remembering that every human has emotions. Women fought for their voice, and now men deserve their emotional voice too.”

Sharing her idea of real strength, she expresses it beautifully: “Real strength is softness. It’s accepting that you are human.”

When asked how she cares for her own emotional well-being, she says, “I slow down when I feel overwhelmed. Small rituals like writing my thoughts, spending time with grounding people, and listening to soothing music help me a lot.”
