Taj actress Aditi Rao Hydari says, “I think intimacy is actually the most natural thing” – Exclusive

MUMBAI : :Aditi Rao Hydari is one of the most beautiful and talented actresses we have in the industry. She has impressed us with her performance in many movies, and now, she is gearing up for the release of her web series titled Taj: Divided By Blood. In the series, Aditi will be seen playing the role of Anarkali.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Aditi and spoke to her about the web series, controversies, intimate scenes, and more...

When we talk about Salim and Anarkali, the first two people that come to mind are Dilip Kumar and Madhubala. So, I am not going to compare you with her, but when you were performing or when the script was offered to you was there pressure that we are going to step into big shoes?

You cannot recreate that magic and we are not even attempting to do it. Mughal-E-Azam is a masterpiece and forever it will be so. Taj is a creation of very diverse creators and I think that’s what makes it different. They have looked at it almost like a family drama, but it happens to be set in the 16th century and these people in their incredible costumes. I think what they have looked at it is as human emotions and power dynamics, love, betrayal, envy, and lust, and I think that’s how this show is. I don’t think I even went in thinking that because if I would have I wouldn’t have been able to walk into the set.

A lot of times it happens that when a movie or a series revolving around history is made, it faces a lot of controversies. You have faced that during Padmaavat, so while signing Taj was there a hesitation that this might attract controversies as well?

Honestly, you can’t control what other people think, but as actors, at least what I feel is that the only control we have is to see the intention of the makers, director, and creative team. At least in my experience, I have worked with some incredible people; people who love their work and are passionate about telling their stories and making every frame come to life. It’s like they eat, breathe, and sleep cinema. Maybe sometimes, some things are misunderstood by somebody, but that was not the intention of that person because these people are great filmmakers and I would never doubt their intention. I do wish that we have more space for creativity and different narratives and I also hope that we trust legendary filmmakers and the work that they are doing; we support them and back them because they make our country proud.

The trailer gives us a hint that there will be a few intimate scenes in the series. So, was it difficult as an actor to perform intimate scenes and did you have an intimacy coordinator on the sets?

Every set is different. I am usually comfortable because I have good co-stars and good directors who have made me feel comfortable; I think that’s the most important thing. It’s about trusting the person; once you know your team, then it’s like any other scene. I understand having intimacy coordinators on set, and I feel it is important, but I do also believe that if you are showing a loving relationship, I think intimacy is the most natural thing. Violence is not natural and somehow we can do violence without thinking twice about it, but we think so much about something that’s intimate. I feel in our own minds it should be more normalized to show intimacy most beautifully, and not in a way that is uncomfortable or creepy. The most beautiful natural thing is love.

Taj also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Aashim Gulati, Taha Shah Badussha, and Shubham Mehra. It will premiere on Zee5 on 3rd March 2023.
