Intricacies of Indian law, specifically the criminal justice system, have always made for gripping cinematic themes.
The latest filmmaker to find the subject fascinating is Bengali filmmaker Agnidev Chatterjee, so much so that he has decided to make a political thriller in Hindi on the same subject tentatively titled The Truth Behind Article 161.
All this is said to have spiraled after Chatterjee met Rakesh Malik who was convicted of homicide but got a Governor's pardon.
And to make the film more spectacular, Chatterjee has signed Reena Roy to return on the silver screen after a 13-year hiatus when she last appeared in J P Dutta’s Refugee. It is said that the filmmaker met Roy with the script. Liking the subject, the actress instantaneously gave her nod to the project.
Reena has been pitted against Vinod Khanna, with whom she had earlier done films like Janam Kundli, Insaan, Jail Yatra, Daaku Aur Jawan and Aakhri Daku. The film also stars Rituparna Sengupta and Karron Mallik in pivotal roles.
Chatterjee is known to have taken up controversial issues like the Park Street rape case and the Maharashtra education scam in his films.
