MUMBAI: Akshay Kumar's much-awaited cop drama Sooryavanshi will finally release on April 30. The Rohit Shetty directorial will also feature Katrina Kaif opposite Akshay in the lead role. The fourth instalment in Rohit Shetty's cop universe, the film also stars Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff, Sikander Kher, Niharica Raizada, Abhimanyu Singh, Nikitin Dheer, Vivan Bhatena and Javed Jaffrey in supporting roles.

Akshay Kumar recently treated fans to the news of the film's release date through Twitter. The actor shared a short clip alongside the caption, "We promised you all a cinematic experience and that’s what you will get...the wait is finally over! Aa Rahi Hai Police‍♀️ #Sooryavanshi releasing worldwide in cinemas on 30th April 2021. #Sooryavanshi30thApril"

Katrina Kaif too shared the news on Instagram, writing, "And it’s coming Sooryavanshi in cinemas April 30 th Aa raha hai storm. Aa rahi hai police. #Sooryavanshi releasing worldwide, only in cinemas, on 30th April 2021. #Sooryavanshi30thApril"

Akshay Kumar's character was originally introduced towards the end of Simmba

You read that right, Akshay Kumar's character was announced at the end credits scene of Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba and served as an introduction to Sooryavanshi. Akshay Kumar will be essaying the titular character of DCP Veer Sooryavanshi, the chief of the Anti-Terrorism Squad, in the film.

Trailer of Sooryavanshi came out in 2020

The first trailer of Sooryavanshi came out on March 2, 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world pushed the release of the film on hold, indefinitely. The film will now finally release in theatres on April 30.

Akshay Kumar is teaming up with Rohit Shetty for the first time

The team of Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty has become quite famous in Bollywood for their action flicks. However, with Sooryavanshi, Rohit will be working for the first time with Akshay Kumar. Wishing Rohit on his birthday, Akshay revealed that the common passion that brought them together is action. Ajay, on the other hand, has worked with the actor in both Golmaal and Singham series.
