MUMBAI: Currently, Kani Kusruti has no plans to work in a Hindi or pan-Indian film. Kusruti was an important character in the Cannes-winning film ‘All We Imagine as Light.’ The actor has been amazing in Malayalam movies, and has acted in movies like 'Cocktail,' 'Shikkar,' 'Biriyaani,' and others.

Kani Kusruti used her watermelon purse to make a big political statement at Cannes 2024, and admitted that her Hindi is not that good.
"Whatever character that I have got as of now has been of someone who speaks in a Keralite accent, or broken Hindi. I am not even that great an actor that I can learn the language to play an important part in a Hindi film. I am happy doing Malayalam films and I don't think I would be able to become proficient in the language to move to Bollywood,” she said.
While she may not have plans to move to Mumbai, she does have a wishlist of directors she wants to work with. Kusruti added, "I don't know if I should call them 'Bollywood directors' but I do love their work. If I do get a chance to work with any of them, I would be willing to put in that extra hard work to learn Hindi. It's Sriram Raghavan, Kanu Bahl, and Dibakar Banerjee - I would love to work with them."
The actor also shared that she is not looking for conventional parts, "I want to do characters that jump out. It needn't be regional but can be extremely whimsical or comical and stylised. I don't want to be entangled with language but just do crazy things."
In a recent interview, Kani Kusruti had spoken about going through a financial crunch which led her to pick projects she did not want to. When asked if the success and acclamation for ‘Biriyaani’ and ‘All We Imagine As Light’ will make life easier for her, she replied, "Not just with these two projects, but in the last few years, things have looked upward. I also got to work in web series like ‘Maharani’ and ‘Ok Computer’ in Mumbai. I now have some money to say no to things that I don't want to do anymore. Things have definitely been better and I am no more in that kind of situation."
Kani stated that the team is hoping to get 'All We Imagine as Light' released in theatres in France before the end of the year when questioned about the film's release. She continued by saying that they still didn't know if the movie would have a commercial theatrical release or travel between festivals.
'All We Imagine as Light,' directed by Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia, recently took home the top prize at Cannes 2024. The recognition has also drawn attention to the film's main actors, including Hridhu Haroon, Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam.
