A film based on Ayodha’s Babri Masjid case to re-ignite debate; read all the details

Babri Masjid

MUMBAI: The highly controversial Babri Masjid case has created havoc in the secular country of India for more than two decades. Since the demolition of the mosque, there has been discussion and debate on the same. Political parties have come and gone while giving promises to solve the sensitive matter.

Now years later, a film is being made on the contentious case. The guts have been shown by Pallavi Sapra and Rajnish Baba Mehta. Under a joint production between Scriptures Productions and Vollmond Ent. PVT. Ltd., the duo is making a movie on the subject.

Titled Punyatithi- Death Anniversary, the film is set in 1992 and talks about a single Muslim family’s plight during the Babri incident. The project is directed by Rajnish Baba Mehta, who himself has been a journalist in the past and has worked as a creative eye for many production houses on the TV front.

An alumnus of Delhi University, Mehta went to Ayodha and wrote the story post his graduation.

For the film, the makers have roped in talented bunch of actors to add another dimension to the narrative. Indian film actor Deepraj Rana, who was seen along with Salman Khan in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), plays the protagonist. He has been a regular face on Indian TV and was recently seen in Star Bharat’s Chandra Shekhar. Rana, who has also been part of commercial hits like Special 26 (2013), Singham Returns (2014), was in the wavelength with the intensity of his character.

Along with him, theatre artist Anamika Tiwari would be joining the team. Tiwari is currently seen in Star Bharat’s Muskaan. Fresh face Vinod Tharan plays another primary character.

In an exclusive interview with TellyChakkar, Rajnish confirmed the news. He added his own idea, “Now when I’m in Mumbai and God has given me the chance of film making, I wanted to talk about this topic. I don’t know why religion is so important; I think humanity should be the only religion. It’s a story of survival of humans.”

The shooting of the film has been completed and the makers are eyeing for film festivals.
