MUMBAI : Richa Chadha's 99 retakes of a song from the recently launched series Heeramandi have garnered a lot of attention. It conveys a lot about Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director, and his quest for perfection, but it also highlights Richa's skill as an actress.

Recently, SLB spoke candidly about how difficult it was for him and Richa to get the desired shot after 99 attempts.

In an entertainment portal interview, Sanjay Leela Bhansali discussed candidly about the process of filming the highly anticipated song Masoom Dil Hai Mera ft. Richa Chadha, particularly in the 99-take shot in Heeramandi. SLB claimed that it was a "very special" occasion and that, despite her best efforts, she was unable to execute it as he had requested.

The director continued by saying that Richa's inability to enter that mindset eventually got to him. The circumstances caused them to become frustrated with one another, which caused the actress to display the exact expression the director was looking for.

Describing it as 'special', Bhansali said that moment was a result of what we said to each other. "In all the songs I’ve shot, big numbers, this is one of the rare moments of the actor feeling the humiliation of the scene that she went through rather than feeling the humiliation of me getting angry and saying, ‘How many takes will you want?’ The anger was from both sides, but you need to be in that state of mind.''

The director commended Richa Chadha's professionalism and stated that whereas any other actor would have fled the sets in a fit of rage, Richa Chadha realised the significance of the song and how it outweighed both of them. He claimed that after she ultimately made the shot and received a round of applause, Richa and SB gave each other hugs and forgot about the previous exchange.

Heeramandi is set against the backdrop of pre-independence India and explores the world of courtesans, who were formerly queens. Heeramandi, which has love and betrayal as its main themes, debuted on Netflix on May 1.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the eight-episode series stars a wonderful  cast led by the stunning women Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, and Sharmin Segal. In addition to these amazing actresses, Taha Shah, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, and Farida Jalal play important roles in the drama series.
