How Yash Chopra influenced the making Gunday...

Gunday
Did you know Gunday was one of Yash Chopra's last narrations? The man who famously taught India how to romance, was also responsible for giving a go ahead for this Ranveer and Priyanka Chopra starrer YRF movie. Apart from passing on his wise inputs to director Ali Abbas Zafar, Yash Chopra also wanted him to shoot Gunday at an actual coal mine. It is believed that Yash Chopra himself wanted to shoot in actual coal mines for Kaala Patthar (starring Amitabh Bachchan), but unfortunately couldn't take the plunge then. "So Yashji insisted Ali to shoot at a coal mine and also shared options of where all Ali could shoot," reveals a source close to YRF. As a result, the coal mines that one will get to see in the movie are actual mine shots. The shooting was held in an open cast mine in Raniganj which is about three hours away from Kolkata. This is also makes it the first Indian film to have been granted permission to shoot in that area. Sources reveal that the permission bit was not a problem. "In fact all the nitty gritties worked out smoothly for them. The authorities were very accommodating. Even when the team went for a recce, the authorities gave them access during lunch breaks for them to scan and plan things," says a source. Director Ali also interacted with the miners closely to understand their lifestyle and their work conditions. He also photographed them to ensure that he got the nuances of the look right. The cast and crew shot in these mines for two long weeks without any interference. The only little hiccup being the sea of humanity that would gather to see the stars. Ali, on his part, thanks the late Yash Chopra for having advised him to go to an actual mine for shooting. Now knowing Yash Chopra's love for visually stunning locales, we are sure his inputs would have helped Ali in making Gunday a visually enhanced treat to watch and savour.
