A lowdown of what unfolded at the 59th Filmfare Awards
The stage was set for India’s greatest stars to sashay and sizzle. And they sure did, in style, at the 59th Idea Filmfare Awards. Though some big stars like SRK and Katrina Kaif were conspicuous by their absence, those present did make sure to turn the night into one rocking affair. Tellychakkar.com captures some favourite moments in words. First time emcee Priyanka Chopra created a flutter at Yashraj studio’s main gates when she arrived in her new customized Rolls Royce. Dressed in silver, Priyanka was at her wittiest best, taking sporting digs at Ranbir. Ranbir who was dressed in a white sherwani with a cape keeping in mind the futuristic theme, also got even with Priyanka. All in good fun though. Here are a few snapshots of what unfolded yesterday night - When Priyanka grilled Ranbir about how he escaped the brickbats after delivering a flop like Besharam, he said that he went to a place where there was no one. When she asked him how he can be alone in a place where there was no fan of his, Ranbir said he was in a theatre showing Zanjeer. Ranbir also took multiple digs at Ranveer Singh. Sample this one - Ranveer went to see Lootera and by the time the film got over he grew a moustache and a beard for Ram-Leela. Ranbir even shot a spoof on Ram- Leela where he played Ranveer. Ranbir dominated the entire emceeing bit and even kept Ranveer off stage even though Ranveer was supposed to perform. He later impersonated Bappi Lahiri in Aashiqui’s spoof and poked fun at Aditya Roy Kapoor and accused him of gay seduction. Ranbir was at his charming best but he did appear a bit nervous and goofed up at times by rushing through his dialogues. He even called Prachi Desai- Prachai. Overwhelming moment of the night happened when Aashiqui 2 won the best music album award and Mukesh Bhatt was called on stage. In his speech, Mukesh said, “It’s 24 years since Aashiqui. The biggest Mt Everest was creating a magical music to match the first one.” Mukesh further said that he heard about 1800 tunes before finally starting the journey of Aashiqui 2 with Ankit, Mithoon and Jeet Ganguly. “They are magicians, not musicians. They created a Gangotri of music. Each one of them have about 1000 melodies in their heart. Madhuri Dixit was supposed to perform but didn't. She recorded her act which will be shown on TV broadcast on 26 January. Karan Johar paid tribute to Farooq Shaikh and Suchitra Sen. Later as he paid tribute to Tanuja, Karan was heckled by Kajol as he couldn’t get the word Nayaab kalakaar and said it four times without getting right. Kajol who was sitting in the audience openly teased Karan who was on stage. Karan scolded her and said, “I'm paying tribute to your mom. Stop pulling my leg.” Finally Farhan Akhtar came to his rescue. Amitabh Bachchan gave away the lifetime achievement award to Tanuja. Bachchan called Tanuja a whiff of fresh breath and unconventional. Karan Johar showered heap of praises on Shahid Kapoor and called him extraordinary and exceptional. Later, Shahid performed to Saree Ke fall song with skimpily clad foreigners. Supriya Pathak was awarded the best supporting award for Ram Leela while Nawaazuddin Siddiqui walked away with the best supporting actor award for The Lunchbox. Jolly LLB sprang a surprise by netting two awards for best story and best dialogues. Deepika Padukone looked stunning as she came to collect Sony TV trendsetter award for Chennai Express. While collecting it, Deepika said she didn’t know what the award is for!!!! It was finally time for Ranveer Singh to enter. The stage was set and Ranveer flew in from the sky and started with Bhai Bhai from Ram-Leela and followed it up with Tattad Tattad. Easily the best performance of the day with Ranbir Kapoor applauding Ranveer and called him unmatchable and unstoppable, energetic and enthusiastic. Fire Alert - Ranveer’s performance actually lit some fire. Towards the end of his dance, some group dancers with fire sparklers, mingled with audience. One of the curtains on the wall suddenly caught fire but alert security guards doused it. Ranbir later said, ‘Waah, Ranveer ne aag hi laga diya.’ South Indian star Dhanush was awarded the best debutante actor. He humbly accepted it and said that even after doing 25 films, he has still won best debutante actor. He further said that it proves that he is a humble newcomer and still has to keep learning Ranbir Kapoor then got into his elements and asked Dhanush to sing Kolaveri Di and Dhanush retorted by saying that it has taken him a long time to get that song out of his system and he didn't want to sing it again. Vaani Kapoor got the best debutante actress but was scolded by Priyanka for saying SHIT on National television while receiving the award. The rest of the night belonged to Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Deepika. The pretty actress collected her best actress trophy from Rekha and Shahid Kapoor for Ram-Leela. Deepika in her speech said that she used to sit together with family and watch Filmfare awards and it was like a dream to be here today and collecting the best actress award. She thanked Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh. Deepika said she was irritable during 2013 due to her hectic schedule. She then thanked her fans for believing in her and giving her strength and inspiration to do what she wants to do. Karan Johar then asked Deepika if Lord Ram was her inspiration on the sets hinting at Ranveer but Deepika said "Karan you are my inspiration" which got her roars from the audience. Interestingly hosts Ranbir and Priyanka disappeared when Deepika's award was being announced. So Karan Johar did the honours. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag hit a six yesterday by bagging six awards out which included the big three. Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor. Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra dedicated his award to his mother who he lost during the shooting of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Farhan Akhtar who was adjudged the best actor said Filmfare trophy had become lighter. He then thanked Rakeysh for the wonderful experience, Prasoon Joshi for an amazing script screenplay, dialogue and lyrics. Farhan also remembered how his mom used to ask him what he used to do running barefeet around the streets of Bandra. “I have made her proud now,” said Farhan. To watch the entire action, tune into Sony TV on 26 January at 8 pm.
