MUMBAI : After making her acting debut in the 1980s, Meenakshi Seshadri collaborated with a number of male A-list actors, including Shatrughan Sinha, Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor, and Amitabh Bachchan. She left the movie business in 1996 to concentrate on her personal life and moved to the United States.
Meenakshi, who is 60 years old, intends to return to the movie industry. She recently discussed in an interview the reasons why, despite being significantly older than her, her male co-stars, Amitabh and Anil, are still working in the business.
Meenakshi shared many factors that made male actors’ careers go in the industry. She said, “There are quite a few reasons why male actors have a longer run in the industry. Even with Dharmendra, Jeetendra, and Amitabh Bachchan’s generation, they are still at it. Another factor is that men are not really the ones who are doing domestic duties at home. So they can completely devote themselves to their careers. The third reason is that they don’t have to worry about childbirth or pregnancy, or raising children. All of this becomes the woman’s responsibility. So, there you go, this is exactly why these heroes are still going strong.”
She added, “And, of course, people still like them. It is the most important factor.”
On asking her about working with current filmmakers, the 60 year old actress said, “I think current filmmakers will want to know what I am like nowadays, what my artistic expression is before anybody decided to write a script for me.”
