Mumbai's socialite Nawaz Modi Singhania prefers to paint Hollywood stars over Bollywood

Mumbai's socialites continue to have a strong fixation for Hollywood superstars choosing them over their Bollywood counterparts! The latest one in the limelight is Nawaz Modi Singhania (Gautam Singhania's wife), an artiste whose work sparkles with grace, spirituality and movement. Nawaz will showcase her forthcoming solo art exhibition on portraits of iconic globally renowned personalities from various walks of life at the Raymond Flagship Store, Warden Road, South Mumbai from 6 April onwards. It is believed that a special preview for this invite only event will be held on Saturday, 5 April for Mumbai's socialites and celebrities. Nawaz Modi Singhania's Bollywood friends such as Juhi Chawla, Raveena Tandon and Anju Mahendroo amongst others are expected to attend the preview event. When questioned as to why she didn't choose to make portraits of any Bollywood celebrities, Nawaz said that she knows most of them very well and the sense of mystery didn't exist and her portraits of Hollywood personalities were inspired by the sense of mystique that these personalities exuded in her formative years. The portraits on canvas (charcoal, oils and acrylic) are a tribute to iconic celebrities ranging from Hollywood stars (Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Tom Cruise) to singers (Beyonce, Michael Jackson) to sportspeople (David Beckham, Maradona, Roger Federer) to royalty (Princess Diana) to scientists (Albert Einstein) to corporate executives (Steve Jobs) to celebrity anchors (Oprah Winfrey) amongst others. “Through the years, they have made us laugh and cry, they have inspired and motivated us, embedded thoughts, imbibed emotions and character in us, enthralled and mesmerized us, both consciously and subconsciously. This collection is a Portrait Study of those whom we love to love…or even love to hate..,” says Nawaz. The paintings will be open for public viewing from 6 April to 4 May (2014).
