Shahid Kapoor has a deep affinity towards Kashmir. Known as heaven on earth, Shahid first visited Kashmir as a four-year old tiny tot with his mother. Little did he then know that he would revisit the place to shoot Haider. With the majority of the film having been shot in Kashmir, Shahid developed a heartfelt connect with the place. Evidently, Shahid was deeply disturbed when floods submerged most of Kashmir wiping out people and vegetation. The actor tweeted incessantly doing his bit to save the people stuck in Kashmir.
Sharing his feelings about the floods and the situation in Kashmir, Shahid told us, "We were shooting at all those places which have now been wiped out. We had a guy named Shahrukh Gilani who assisted us while shooting in Kashmir. He is a local and he sent me pictures of all those places that got submerged under water. It's a strange feeling. I felt numb and didn't know how to react."
A close of friend was also stuck in Kashmir before he was airlifted by the army to safety.
Praising the army and their massive rescue efforts, Shahid said, "Hats off to the Indian army for rescuing all the stranded people. This is a great relationship building exercise between the army and locals. All we can do is hope, pray and contribute in whatever way we can to resurrect the lives of those who have lost everything in the floods."
Bollywood too has been at the forefront with many stars tweeting their support and extending their heartfelt solidarity towards the victims.
