MUMBAI: Renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, best known for his work on the 1987 film Mr India, has shared some behind-the-scenes photos and stories from the set. In an open conversation, Shekhar revealed that he and cinematographer Baba Azmi wondered how they would make the cockroach "act" in the well-known moment where Sridevi's character starts racing around her apartment because it is chasing her. As a result, they came up with a creative method.

Shekhar claimed in an interview with the popular news portal that they chose to pour some rum in front of the cockroach since they believed it to be drunk at the time. “Me and Baba Azmi, we were thinking how to get the cockroach to act? We thought let’s get a bottle of Old Monk rum… We poured a little bit in front of the cockroach… We thought it will drink and act (laughs). We actually felt like the cockroach had gotten drunk… Maybe the cockroach liked old monk?” he said.

Shekhar also related another story from the film's production in which he told Mogambo's actor, Amrish Puri, to pretend he was playing Shakespeare for young audiences who had never seen the work of a playwright. “When Amrish asked ‘how do you want me to play it?’ I said ‘play it like you are doing Shakespeare’. He was shocked. I said ‘you are doing Shakespeare for kids who have never even heard of Shakespeare, and village kids who have never come to the city.’ He did it that way,” he said.

Mr. India's producer, Boney Kapoor, recently revealed that a sequel is being developed. In a recent interview, he revealed to the popular news portal that he is in talks with a foreign studio about doing a sequel. Ali Abbas Zafar had declared in 2020 that he would be helming the Mr. India sequel, but no further details on the project were released.
