'My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist'; Imran Khan talks about his horrid USA airport checking experience

The 'My Name is Khan' airport saga repeats itself for the nth time at US airports. And this time the 'Khan' holding the detention episode close to his chest happens to be Aamir Khan’s nephew, actor Imran Khan. The actor revealed to us the sordid episode of how he always gets detained and is subjected to illogical security checks just because his last name happens to be a Muslim one – Khan. And this happens unfailingly despite the fact that Imran is a US citizen. "Whenever I travel to the US, the authorities there detain me for extra security screening because of my Khan surname. They even make me remove my trousers for their security checks,” said Imran. The paranoid USA is known for having detained prominent Indian Muslims in the past including Shah Rukh Khan and former President APJ Abdul Kalam. But unlike SRK’s detention which always ends up receiving maximum attention resulting in a hue and cry in India, Imran’s case has always gone unnoticed until the actor mentioned it to us, yesterday. “This is the first time I am mentioning it. I would rather not mention it because I have taken it for granted. This has been happening for the past five years whenever I travel. Every time I fly in and fly out, they stop me and take off my clothes to conduct their checks." When asked if he finds it irritating to undergo these humiliating and illogical security tests, Imran agreed and said, “Yes it is irritating but what can one do. I can’t sit and make them understand or tell them, ‘Listen Google my name and find out.' I know why it happens. Just because of my surname Khan.” Well, we admire Imran for his resilience of having tolerated such humiliation without raising much of a stink unlike other celebs. Wonder if the Indian government will ever take a serious note and step in to stop this menace that unfolds at American airports every time an Indian with a Muslim name lands there.
