Siddharth understands the camera angels better while Abhishek can be called a ‘Director’s Actor’: Director Kushal Awasthi on shooting with the Nigam brothers in SAB TV’s Hero: Gayab Mode On

Today, in conversation with Kushal Awasthi, we speak about his journey in the industry as a director and how the industry functions…

MUMBAI: While there are many actors who get credited for their work on television, often, the people working to make the project a superhit and look the way it is are often not given their due credit. Infact, they are the super heros in making the show a hit and are the reason why the show is much loved!

Today, in conversation with Kushal Awasthi, we speak about his journey in the industry as a director and how the industry functions…

Please give a brief about your journey in the industry…

I started my career with direction. I got an opportunity to work on Sony TV show Sankat Mochan Mahabali Hanuman and later I did Savdhaan India wherein I directed about 50 episodes. I later did shows like Baalveer, Tenali Rama, Aladdin: Naam Toh Suna Hoga among other projects and I am currently directing Hero: Gayab Mode On.

Did you always plan to be a director?

Yes, pretty much. I wanted to direct films but I got an opportunity to do television and since then, I am in this space.

What kind of challenges do you encounter in your profession?

Well, challenges are in the form of when you are working with senior artists, there is nervousness. I feel everything has to be perfect. Plus since they are so talented, making them believe that a particular scene has to be performed in a particular way is challenging for me.

What about actor tantrums?

Well that is a part and parcel and I think it is very natural as if the hair and make-up or some part of their appearance for example is not perfect according to them, they would not be able to focus entirely on their performance.

How is it to work with Siddharth and Abhishek Nigam? They are brothers too!

It is an absolute delight! I have worked with Siddharth earlier too and both the brothers are very talented. If I have to compare the two, Siddharth is matured and will come across as an experienced actor. He understands the camera angles better while Abhishek, I can call him a director’s actor. He will do perfectly as explained to him. If there is a fairly new director working with him, one would not be able to spot a flaw in Abhishek.

Both are very dedicated to their art.

Speaking of OTT and television, what differences do you spot in terms of making?

Look, in television we are time bound. When it comes to OTT, you get time to understand the scene well. There are some differences in the technical aspects as too as we need to focus on meeting deadlines.

Well said Kushal! (Also Read: Kumkum Bhagya: BIG TWIST! Pragya takes revenge against Abhi)
