I am not an insecure actor: Indraneil Sengupta

Indraneil Sengupta

Indraneil Sengupta recently made his TV comeback after a long gap. The dishy actor is seen on Zee TV’s Jamai Raja, playing the parallel lead of a Bengali man aka Neil.

We sat down for an exclusive interview where he talked about his show, experience of shooting with the Jamai Raja cast, fatherhood and lots more...

What made you to choose Jamai Raja?

The show is nice and has a great cast. The role suits me a lot as well. The way my character is given importance and has been projected is amazing. I am glad to be a part of it.

Despite being in television for many years now, why haven’t you featured as the main lead?

It’s not in my hands. I don’t know the reason… maybe I haven’t been utilized on TV yet.

Do you think that only few select actors are given prominence, while seasonal actors are sitting at home?

There are many financial factors involved before locking the cast…newbies come in minimal cost.

In this PR-driven space, we don’t really see you interacting with the media. Do you think it’s necessary?

Barkha and I are both reserved and don’t like to make our private life public.  We don’t really like to promote us, nor do we really share our whereabouts on social networking sites.

As the show is about Ravi and Nia, didn’t you fear that your character won’t get equal footage?

I am not an insecure actor. I know that Ravi and Nia are lead of the show and have taken it to another level with their hard work. I am happy in my own space. We are all matured individuals and have no competitions.

How’s your bonding with the Jamai Raja actors?

I have known Ravi and Nia for a long time now, so shooting with them has been fun. I find the atmosphere on the sets very relaxing.

What matters to you: Good script or money?

Both. Along with scripts, money plays an important role as actors are paid on per day basis. But these days, it’s important to work with good channels as they help you in promotions.

Do you enjoy watching TV shows?

I don’t get time to watch TV shows. I try to watch Hanuman as it has my wife Barkha. Now I am following Jamai Raja.

According to you, which kind of shows should be made in the future?

Pick up any topic but it should have romance in it. Only romantic stories work on television.

How has fatherhood changed you?

Actually, I feel no difference. Life has turned beautiful after my daughter entered our lives.
