One of the most hyped shows Sahara One announced last year, Power Trip hosted by Shobhaa De, will soon go off air. Vickey Lalwani caught up with the articulate Shobhaa for a brief tete-a-tete: Power Trip is coming to an end? Yeah. But it was a great learning experience for me. I enjoyed interacting with some of the biggest names and extraordinary minds in the corporate industry. Were you satisfied with the feedback you got on it? We were clear from the beginning that it will not be creating any dhamaka. It was meant for a niche viewership. I got quite a bit of positive feedback. Is it not a disappointment that it is ending? Not really. I had a contractual obligation of 28 episodes. That's what it is ending at. Your on-going piece of writing Sarrkkar on Zee TV (produced by Manish Goswami)has an uncanny resemblance to the Gandhi family. Many top industrialists have two sons and there is a power struggle at home. Even Vilasrao Deshmukh has two sons. Political dramas are completely rivetting and fascinating me no end. I have loved every moment of writing Sarrkkar. You are writing another serial for Goswami? Yup. That's for Star One and tentatively titled Sixer. It's based on cricket. Right now, they are shooting from the 60th episode onwards, which means quite a bit of it has already been shot. Could you elaborate on Sixer? The script stems from a story which was lying with me for quite some time. But I can't give away the storyline. In short, 'Sixer' will explores the world of cricket from all angles. Isn't there quite a bit in this national obsession- politics, glamour, endorsements, match-fixing, so many things? It is a 45-minute weekly, if I am not wrong. Taking Kittie Party (Zee TV) into consideration, you have completed a hat-trick with Goswami? I like working for his company Siddhant Cinevision. I am comfortable with everyone working at his office. Manish and I share a very nice and comfortable working relationship. Have you completed writing it? Being a novelist does not imply that I will write television shows according to usual norms. TV serials never have a bound script. Ever thought of writing a saas-bahu saga? Nope. I hope nobody approaches me to write a saas-bahu tear-jerker. Frankly, I am not available for penning such themes. I find them intellectually insulting. What else is happening for you on television? I am in talks for hosting distinctly formatted chat shows. Let's see what happens. But I am clear of what I don't want to do, like saas-bahu serials is definitely not my cup of tea.
