Small screen's latest offering, Ekta Kapoor's Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do, which premiered this week, is a complete package. When we caught the first episode, we were quite impressed. And why not! It has a little bit of drama, mystery, and modern-day romance.
The series opens with an ideal couple, Ishaan and Preet Hooda (Iqbal Khan and Mona Singh), who make an adarsh son and a sensible bahu combo. While the son keeps his relatives together, it's the wife who's the backbone of the family.
What really piqued our curiosity was the equilibrium between Iqbaal and Mona. On the outside, the two make a perfect pair, loving, caring and understanding. But their chemistry is certainly awkward because Iqbaal has a dark past that the viewers have to keep guessing. We really want to know why this ideal son, brother and friend is not an ideal husband. What's that big secret? We are definitely going to watch the series to know this...
In the day and age of sass-bahu dramas, this modern love story that has the couple in a titular role. The couple is the main arc around whom the story revolves around. That's a nice touch.
Lending their able support to the main lead are the rest of the characters who look tailor-made for their roles. Micky Ahuja plays a doting father who's strict, yet understanding. He knows what needs to be done, but also knows the importance of discipline. His onscreen wife, played by Juothi Tommar is a typical mother figure, who's always there for her kids. This family is rounded off by Mansi Sharma who's the 21st century girl, who can balance her fashion and career equally well. In fact, Sharma has set the bar really high for all the female viewers of the show...in the sartorial department. From her sassy clothes to interesting up dos, she makes for a dishy watch.
Of course, the lead pair take the cake in the acting department. Right from their awkward chemistry to their unconditional love, they are bang on. They are mundane, yet exciting. That's the real genius of the show. Moreover, the reel family looks so real, we thought they were really related.
Perhaps this the reason they all look so relatable because they could be one of us. We all have a sister who's outgoing and fun, a bhabi who puts everyone before herself and a husband who is selfless to a fault. The actual fun starts when these everyday characters are soaked in mystery and their ideal worlds come crashing down...
If the first episode could excite us so much, imaging what the entire series would offer! Catch the show from Monday to Friday at 9 PM on Sony TV.
