“After a long time I will be playing a grey character”, says Sonia Singh from Sony SAB’s Hero: Gayab Mode On

MUMBAI: Sonia Singh, who is popularly known for playing some noted antagonist characters in television industry, has stepped into Sony SAB’s recent launch Hero: Gayab Mode On. Sonia has majorly planned negative characters throughout her career but her character in Hero: Gayab Mode On is different than the others.

Sonia who will be seen playing the role of Bindu Sidhwani aka Veer’s (Abhishek Nigam) aunt. Calling her latest role a refreshing change and a different character in her career graph, Sonia said, “I will be playing a grey character after a long time. I have majorly portrayed the most challenging negative characters but Bindu Sidhwani certainly stands out for me. The character is shrewd, glamourous, full of pride with a tongue sharper than a knife but at the same time, she has unconditional love for her son and her husband. I am really enjoying portraying this character as she doesn’t come off as completely evil. She has her moments where she can be soft and loving towards her family.”

Talking about if she enjoys playing negative characters, Sonia said, “I started off my career with a negative character and I kept getting similar roles. Through the journey I realise that as an artiste there is a lot more in a negative character that I get to explore. There are always various shades to an antagonist. It is challenging to play a negative role as we tend to be subjected to a lot of dislike from the fans of the show but I guess that is when an artiste can say that she did a good job playing the role. I am often asked if I relate to the character but I don’t think I have ever related to the characters. I am an entirely different person in real life and nothing like the vamp you see on TV.”

Sharing her excitement for Hero: Gayab Mode On, Sonia said, “I am really thrilled to be a part of this Hero: Gayab Mode On. I have worked with the production house in the past and when this role came my way, I couldn’t say no. Hero Gayab Mode On is unlike a regular television show, the concept is really exciting and even the way it is shot is more like the shooting style of OTT content. I am working with lovely co-stars and I eagerly look forward to creating memories with them.”
