We are sure the news of millennium star Amitabh Bachchan entering the fiction realm of television has brought a smile to everyone’s lips. But how did you like the news of the super talented director Anurag Kashyap directing the mega star?
The celebrated director, Anurag –who is now a big name in the 70mm space –actually started his career with television.
At the launch announcement of Anurag and Big B’s venture for a serial on Sony Entertainment Television, the man said, “TV today is a very strong medium with a vast reach. I have made it evident on several occasions that I wanted to return to TV and this proved to be the perfect come back time for me. Be it Tigmanshu Dhulia or Anurag Basu, we all started with the small screen medium.”
The upcoming project will be co-produced by Endemol and Saraswati Creations (which had earlier produced Dekh Bhai Dekh on the same channel).
A little flashback…This Gangs of Wasseypur director started his journey in the entertainment industry as a writer with TV serials Kabhie Kabhie and Jayate, and went on to write-direct a short film for Star Bestsellers (Last Train to Mahakali) which won him the special jury awards at 8th Annual Star Screen awards. Anurag has also tried his hand at acting; having faced the camera for a miniseries The Maharaja’s Daughter. One multi talented man he is… we must say!!!
The director, whose last endeavour on big screen was a short film (part of Bombay Talkies), was based on Big B’s star power and the love his fans shower on him. The director who feels that working with Amitabh is every filmmaker’s dream is really looking forward to this fiction series.
Said he: “It is, of course, an honour to direct Mr Bachchan. We have been working on the script for around six months now. It will be a finite series, and more details will be divulged soon.” The cast of this yet untitled project will start shooting in a week’s time. The makers also refrained from commenting on the time slot of the show.
On being asked how were the long “planning” sessions with Big B, the director quipped, “He is very demanding.” He then explained, “It is important to be well researched when working with Amitabh ji, as he tends to get into details and asks a lot of questions. He is demanding, but in the right sense, for he wants the best out of all the projects he takes up.”
The director who is known to be working with newcomers and giving them a dream launch platform was asked about fresh faces being cast in the Sony show. Anurag jokingly announced, “Big B is the newcomer here.” He stated that most characters in the show will be new but tremendously talented. Not many big names have been roped in as such.
Though the makers did not divulge much detail about the show and its genre, it is believed to be based on social issues.
Furthermore, Anurag did mention that the show will be one-of-its-kinds and ‘hatke’ from the content that currently airs on Indian television.
There is not an iota of doubt that Anurag will live up to his words and weave a spectacle in the fiction space. But will it gain as much popularity as Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate? Well, only time will tell.
Till then, Tellychakkar.com welcomes Anurag back on TV and wishes him and Mr Bachchan all the luck and success for the venture.
