MUMBAI: Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible has captivated audiences with the inspiring story of Pushpa, a strong-willed woman who faces life’s challenges with courage and optimism. Karuna Pandey, who plays Pushpa, has recently taken on a double role in the show, stepping into the shoes of both Pushpa and her lookalike, Basanti. This new chapter has presented both physical and technical challenges for Karuna, from on-set injuries to learning the daily skills of rural life, making her journey both complex and rewarding.
During one action scene, Karuna injured her right toe while chasing down goons in a demanding sequence. Determined to stay true to her character, she pushed through the pain and chose not to use a stunt double. Karuna recalls, “It was tough, but I felt that completing the scene myself was important to honor Pushpa’s spirit. She’s a fighter, and that strength is something I wanted to embody completely—even if it meant working through the pain. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love playing this character.”
Adopting the role of Basanti also brought new experiences for Karuna, who had to master the little details of rural life to bring authenticity to the screen. In one scene, she struggled to light a stove, a task that came with its surprises. She called a crew member to help, finding joy in learning these day-to-day tasks. Karuna says, “Learning Basanti’s lifestyle has added depth to my acting. These small, real-life challenges make the role even more interesting and give me a fresh perspective on the rural way of life.”
Reflecting on her experiences, Karuna adds, “Playing Pushpa has taught me so much about resilience and facing challenges head-on, whether it’s an injury or learning something new. It’s a role that constantly pushes me to grow, both as an actor and as a person. I feel lucky to have these moments that stretch me and keep me connected to Pushpa’s incredible spirit.”
