MUMBAI: Actress Shivangi Verma known who is known for her roles in Tera Ishq Mera Fitoor, Choti Sarrdaarni, film Badass Ravi Kumar, and the upcoming movie Gaurishankar Gauharganj Wale, believes that Independence Day is much more than just posting pictures or singing a few patriotic songs.

Talking about how the meaning of the day has changed over time, she says, “Honestly, I feel somewhere our celebration of Independence Day has become more about posting pictures and less about feeling the real meaning of freedom. Patriotism is not just about one day, it's about respecting our country in our daily life, following rules, keeping our surroundings clean, helping each other, and making India proud in small ways.

”She adds that honouring the day means remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters and working on being better citizens every single day. “If we truly want to honour this day, we should not only remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters but also work towards being responsible citizens every single day,” she explains.

When asked about the freedom fighter who has inspired her the most, Shivangi says without hesitation, “For me, Bhagat Singh has always been a huge inspiration. He was so young, yet so fearless, and ready to sacrifice his life for the country without thinking twice."

She further shares what moves her about his story, saying, “What inspires me the most is his clarity of purpose; he knew what he stood for and never gave up, even when he knew the cost. His courage reminds me that age or situation should never stop us from doing what is right.”

As for her Independence Day message to fans, Shivangi’s words are heartfelt. “I just want to say freedom is a blessing that we should never take for granted. Let’s value it by living with honesty, unity, and kindness. Be proud of being Indian, not just on Independence Day, but every day. And remember, small actions like helping someone, being truthful, and respecting others are also ways of serving our nation. Jai Hind!”
