Recently, Bhagya Lakshmi actor, Akash Choudhary aka Viraj became victim of an incident where a few fans of his lost their cool and behaved aggressively as they couldn’t wait for the actor to take a picture with them.
A fan threw a bottle at the actor and even though Akash got angry, he kept calm and handled the matter in the best way possible.
Tellychakkar got in touch with the actor where we asked about the incident, many such incidents previously and much more.
Tell us about the incident from the beginning and what happened?
It’s not the first time this has happened, just that this was captured as there were a lot of paps. I was coming out after having dinner with my team and friends because I was supposed to go to Worli for an event. We were just leaving from there and there were some paps with normal questions and some fans who wanted to take pictures with me as always. Since I was giving bytes I told them to let me finish it because my fans mean everything to me so I will not refuse to take pictures but sometimes you are not in a condition to do so. I was waiting for my car as my driver wasn’t there yet. I saw him (the driver) and moved towards the car but just then I saw a bottle thrown at me. I turned around and of course I was angry, that would be my first instinct but I couldn’t figure out what to do as I was in the middle of the road. A fan wouldn’t behave like this but then I realized that they are very young kids. Later, my team confronted them. They were frustrated as they were asking for pictures but didn’t get it. They still apologized for it but for me the problem wasn’t how the fans reacted, it was the fact that sometimes we forget we are all humans and we have our personal space. I felt that respect missing and at that moment I didn’t know how to react.
What about the previous times when such an incident had taken place?
This has happened a lot of times earlier but it wasn’t documented because I think it’s not just with me but also with other actors. I remember I was watching a video last night in which Shruti Hassan had to face something similar. It happens with a lot of people. Around 5-6 months ago, I was partying with my friends and right after I left I saw 5-6 girls who recognized me and asked for a selfie. After you leave a party, not everyone is in a state to take a picture, especially when there are female fans. So I refused but then the fans started disrespecting me. I think it has become very convenient for people to disrespect somebody. I just left the situation. It is something that I do most of the time because there are a lot of things at stake for us. We come as a public figure so every action and reaction of ours is counted.
When you shared this with any of your co-actors, did you get to hear a similar incident from anyone?
It happens with a lot of actors. For example, me and Naina, we travel a lot. Naina was in Kumkum Bhagya. It used to happen a lot in Goa too when we used to travel, people would purposely try to mess with us. It's because they know that you are famous and they know that you can’t react. As a measure, I started keeping personal security. I think this happens with a lot of actors, cricketers and other people.
