MUMBAI: Sony TV’s new show ‘Katha Ankahee’ produced by Sphere Origin, is a remake of the Turkish serial “1001 Nights”. The show stars handsome hunk Adnan Khan who was last seen in ‘Ishq Subhanallah' opposite Eisha Singh and also stars Aditi Sharma who is known for her roles in shows like Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka, Gangaa etc.

Talking about Sphere Origin, the production is the most credible and well-known production house with a massive hit record. Some of its notable works include Saat Phere: Saloni Ka Safar, Balika Vadhu, Saraswatichandra, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka and Pandya Store.
The production house was founded by Sujoy Wadhwa in 2002 and he is known for bringing out-of-the-box content on Indian television, which breaks a lot of stereotypes.
Tellychakkar got in touch with the producer where he talked about his latest show ‘Katha Ankahee’.
There are so many foreign shows. Why choose 1001 nights for adaptation?
There are Korean shows which are very high-tech and about machines. These shows surely have an audience and, of course, their adaptations have to be done in a good way in order to bring it to our audience.
If you see the Turkish shows, there are a lot of human emotions and human values. Somehow those types of shows, for adaptation, are very close as we can bring it to our Indian sensibility. I have watched a lot of Korean shows and Turkish shows. I do believe that for our market, Turkish shows are a better choice for adaptation.
‘Katha Ankahee’ has been a buzz since it was announced. Finally, the show has started. What do you think about the response that it's getting?
The industry's and audience's response have been very encouraging. Audience's response is more important because that is eventually who we are working for. Whoever we have spoken to about the show, have given a lot of compliments, be it across the country or abroad. Translation into numbers is a secondary aspect. It is an ongoing and evolving process. Later, we will get to know how it's doing. The initial response for the show, the performances, making of the show, the production value, etc. has all been appreciated. The story content is appreciated more than anything, be it the main leads or the other cast members. They have done a very good job. Rest, time will tell.
Why Aditi and Adnan? How did the casting process go for the leads?
Since we had worked with Aditi earlier, I knew that she will fit in this role perfectly. Yes, we still went through the casting process and auditioned many other actors but somewhere down the line, we knew that Aditi is going to be the lead. Of course, it took two months for the whole process and after that, we finally decided that it's going to be her. Everybody agreed with this choice. The mother-son relationship is fantastically done in the show.
Talking about Adnan, if you see the original character in 1001 nights, there's a sort of aloofness, the character is only interested in work and nothing else. Adnan projected that type of portrayal in his auditions. After auditions, I think his body language, presentation, looks and walk came very close to the person who played the character in 1001 nights.
