I have been researching about Lord Vishnu for 4 years now - Kanan Malhotra who plays Lord Vishnu in Devi Aadi Parashakti

MUMBAI: Preparation is as much of an actor’s job as the performance itself, particularly when the features of the character have a stark difference than the artists natural persona. How the actor immerses himself to overcome physical, mental, emotional, or even vocal modulation is a true embodiment of the onscreen character which then goes on to create memorable and admirable performances. Kanan Malhotra, popular television actor, who is currently seen as Lord Vishnu in Dangal’s Devi Aadi Parashakti, has been researching for four long years about Lord Vishnu which aids him with his performance.

Speaking about developing an interest in reading about Lord Vishnu, Kanan says, “It has been four years that I have been researching and studying about Lord Vishnu, since I first bagged the role. Devi Aadi Parashakti is my second mythological show where I am essaying the role of Lord Vishnu. When I first bagged the role, I developed an inclination for the character of Lord Vishnu which led me to study more about him. I have been reading about him on the internet.”

Talking about the efforts he is putting to portray the role effectively, he says, “To enhance and portray the character to the best of my ability, I read Bhagwad Gita and also watched Mahabharat and Ramayan. To make sure, that I resemble his persona, I learnt his mudras, his body language, the way he walks, sits, talks etc. Also, to improve my Hindi diction, I read books like Tughlaq, Court Marshal and Geeta Gyan to name a few.”

Indeed great transformations require great dedication with some actors taking it upon themselves to go to extremes to prepare for their roles.

Devi Aadi Parashakti airs on Dangal TV.
