Sparsh better known as the little, wide eyed Ichcha of Uttaran is making her Hollywood debut next year with Lucy Liu of Charlie’s Angels fame. Lucy is debuting as a director with the movie, Half The Sky . Sparsh was selected for this movie via auditions held in India. “They asked me to come for the auditions. They informed us that it was for some Hollywood movie which this actress is doing in various countries. I was not sure initially but I found out about Lucy’s project. She is making a movie based on various issues of women under this title Half The Sky , which will include six different stories from different cities of the world. In four days time, they called me back to meet Lucy. Initially I was reluctant to do this film because the dates were clashing with her exams, then they rescheduled it and that is how she could do this movie,” explains Sparsh’s mother. Sparsh too was naturally not aware about Lucy. “I made her see Lucy’s film and she was quite excited about it. We did a workshop with them because the subject they were dealing in this story called Meena was about girl trafficking and prostitution. So I told them very clearly that since Sparsh is very young, she would not be able to understand the topic. I am really thankful to them that they narrated the script in such a way that she could enact very well without knowing what it really was. She is playing young Meena in this film. It is a short film. Himani Shivpuri and Vipin Sharma are also part of it while Tanishka Chatterjee is playing the older Meena. It is the story of a girl who has been forced into a brothel by her maternal uncle,” her mother informs. The shooting for this movie took place in December and Sparsh’s mother says that it was one of the most proud and memorable experience for her. “Sparsh had to do some action sequences in the film and she did those very well. She was literally the apple of everyone’s eye. They gave her a standing ovation for her acting. Scene after scene they would pamper her so much that she did not even feel like shooting. She got the hang of the American accent in no time. It was really a nice experience. They even asked her about the story of Uttaran and very quickly she presented it in front of them. Lucy complimented her for her acting.” The entire shooting of the film took place in Mumbai. It is going to be a complete Hindi movie but will have English subtitles as it will be released in the US and then do the festival circuit. Lucy is also expected to travel to some other countries in Africa and Asia.
