MUMBAI: Television favourites Rupali Ganguly and Sudhanshu Pandey have made a compelling plea for the small-screen fraternity to receive greater recognition at India’s esteemed National Film Awards.
Both acclaimed for their stellar roles in the popular series Anupamaa, the actors insist that the immense talent and hard work exhibited by television artists deserves a prominent place on the national stage.
During a recent press interaction, Rupali highlighted the relentless schedules that TV actors endure, often working extended hours without respite, yet their contributions remain largely overlooked.

She called upon the government and award committees to extend the honour of National Awards to the television sector, stressing that such recognition is long overdue.
Sudhanshu, who had previously championed this cause in 2021, reaffirmed his commitment to the campaign. He revealed plans to mobilise support from audiences and industry colleagues through social media and awareness initiatives, aiming to shine a spotlight on television’s significant cultural impact.
Emphasising the unyielding demands of television production, particularly throughout the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, he underscored the urgent need for parity with the film industry’s accolades.
Their advocacy has reignited discussions about the imbalance in recognition between film and television, urging relevant authorities to acknowledge the evolving landscape of Indian entertainment.
