Sony SAB's lead actors advocate sustainable Ganesh Chaturthi celebration

MUMBAI: Mumbai September 04, 2024: Ganesh Chaturthi is a vibrant and cherished festival dedicated to Ganesha - the God of new beginnings, remover of obstacles, and the god of wisdom and intelligence. As this festival brings devotees and communities together, it also presents an opportunity to embrace sustainable practices. This year, Sony SAB's stars champion the use of eco-friendly Ganesh idols, advocating for a sustainable Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.

Sujay Reu who portrays the titular character of Lord Vishnu in Shrimad Ramayan said,
“Wishing everyone a very happy Ganesh Chaturthi on behalf of the entire Shrimad Ramayan team! Growing up in Mumbai, Ganesh Chaturthi has always been a special festival for me. Although I won't be in Mumbai this year due to shooting in Umargaon, I plan to visit the local Ganesh pandals to seek blessings. I strongly believe in the use of eco-friendly Ganesh idols. They significantly reduce water and air pollution, protecting our environment while preserving the beauty of our traditions. This year, let’s all commit to honoring Ganeshji with eco-friendly idols, ensuring that our devotion also supports a sustainable future.”
Shaleen Malhotra  who portrays the character of Yash Talwar in Vanshaj said,
For the last four or five years, I have been bringing Ganpati into my home, and it’s been a beautiful experience. It fills our house with warmth, positivity, and spirituality. It also brings people together, allowing us to reconnect with friends and family who come to offer their devotion. We started this tradition after a fire at our house, and since then, it has always been a source of positivity. We’ve used idols made from seeds, clay, and paper pulp, which are kind to the environment. These materials dissolve in water or can be added to plants, ensuring that no waste is left behind and that the environment is preserved.”

Indraxi Kanjilal who plays the role of Prathana in Pushpa Impossible said,
“Choosing sustainable idols is very important because it helps protect our environment. Opting for eco-friendly idols ensures that our water bodies remain clean and healthy, as these idols dissolve completely without leaving any residue. I fully support the idea of using sustainable idols and believe in their positive impact on preserving nature.”

Anjali Tatrari who plays the role of Yuvika Mahajan in Vanshaj said,
“I'm incredibly excited for Ganesh Chaturthi! The festival's energy and spiritual atmosphere are truly uplifting. During the 1.5 days we keep Ganapati Ji at home, it’s so calming to just sit and gaze at the idol. I believe that devotion to God should go hand in hand with caring for Mother Nature. It’s disheartening to see polluted beaches after the festivities. That’s why I always choose eco-friendly Ganpati idols—they honor both the deity and the environment. We can immerse them at home and even use the remnants to nourish plants. Wishing everyone a very happy and blessed Ganesh Chaturthi!”

Basant Bhatt who plays the role of Lakshman in Shrimad Ramayan said,

“I have never brought Ganpati idols to our house as we don’t follow that tradition but instead, we do Pooja in our house, clean our mandir, and prepare special food as a celebration. This tradition has been a cherished part of my childhood and continues to make my Ganpati experience exciting. When considering the sustainability of idols, it's important to prioritize both environmental and societal benefits.”

Aakash Ahuja who plays the role of Rajat in Badall Pe Paon Hai said,
“For the past two years, Ganpati ji has been visiting my home, and last year, I had the rare experience of bringing him to my house in Delhi. While the celebrations in Delhi don’t match the intensity of those in Mumbai, our Ganpati brought the same joy and positivity. It was a wonderful couple of days filled with celebration. We brought home an eco-friendly Ganpati, and after completing the pooja, when the visarjan took place, the idol turned into mitti, We thought of using it for planting something new in a pot. This experience has deepened my connection to the concept of sustainability. I’ve noticed that many people are now opting for sustainable Ganpati idols, and I think it’s a very positive, progressive step forward.”
