Television has left a strong impression on society: Srikant Dwivedi

MUMBAI : On the occasion of World Television Day, observed on November 21, Srikant Dwivedi, currently seen as the parallel lead in Shiv Shakti: Tap Tyaag Taandav and known for his roles in shows like Lakshmi Narayan – Sukh Samarthya Santulan and Bhagya Lakshmi, said, “Television has greatly influenced Indian society over the years. In the early days, TVs were black-and-white and considered a luxury. Owning a television was a status symbol, and families or neighbors would gather at the home of someone who owned one to watch shows together.”
 
“From the early days to the present, television has left a strong impression on society. Whenever a new fashion trend is shown on TV, people are quick to adopt it. Similarly, if a beautiful travel destination is featured, many viewers are inspired to visit that place. Over time, television has brought significant changes, often positive ones. It has deeply impacted people across all sections of society, including rural areas, connecting them with new ideas, cultures, and opportunities,” he added.
 
He started his journey on television in 2019 and said that over the past few years, he has seen a tremendous change in the industry. “Initially, when I entered, most TV shows primarily cast actors in their early twenties. However, there has been a shift in this trend. Now, producers and creative teams seem to prefer casting more experienced actors who can bring depth to their roles. This change reflects a growing belief in the value of experience over age, which has become a prominent trend in recent years,” he said.
 
Srikant also mentioned that TV has been an incredible medium for storytelling in India. “I still remember the storytelling styles in shows like Malgudi Days, Shaktimaan, and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. Today, with shows like Lakshmi Narayan and Shiv Shakti, television has evolved significantly. It has adapted to cater to the current generation, becoming more relatable and friendly for Gen Z audiences,” he said.
 
He believes that this evolution is natural because every industry needs to grow with the times. “However, television has always stood out as an unparalleled medium for storytelling. Unlike movies, which might not reach the masses, television is accessible in almost every home,” he said.
 
“Channels bring stories directly to people’s living rooms. For any creative person in this industry, if the goal is to deliver a message to the largest audience, television is unmatched. The kind of connection and reach television offers is something no other medium can replicate,” he ended.
