The ‘original judges trio’ getting back to Indian Idol excited me: Sonu Nigam

Sonu Nigam gets talking about Indian Idol

Returning from exile after 12 years, the judges of Indian Idol couldn’t help but enjoy the ecstasy and love.

The Sony Entertainment Television above reality series will launch after a break of four years. And this time, to make the season special, the makers (Fremantle India) has got back the original judges trio of Sonu Nigam, Farah Khan and Anu Malik. They will join the panel together after 12 long years.

As we settled for a conversation with Sonu at the launch of the show, he informed that he was unwell and feeling quite groggy.

When asked if he followed the earlier seasons of Indian Idol, the talented singer responsed in denial and quipped, “I do not follow TV and am more of a news and infotainment person. Also I watch a lot of YouTube and digital content. I haven’t really watched Indian Idol for all these years.”

Talking about the changes in music styles, Sonu said, “Yes, the music format has seen a varied difference but I would like to look at it in a positive way. As a human race we are bettering ourselves and also diversifying. Every generation grasps mannerisms, learns and also improvises themselves from the last one. So the singers that we have today are way more dynamic. I must add that the 14 finalists we have selected are exemplary and supremely talented.”

When quipped on what made him get back to Indian Idol, the crooner smiled and shared, “The prime incentive was to share the panel with Anu Malik and Farah Khan, who are beautiful people. Trust me, TV shows don’t excite me and I wouldn’t want to waste my life running after money or being in front of the camera. When I stopped enjoying TV, I quit. The idea of the original judges getting back was really exciting and I decided to return.”

With the mention of the current trends of remixes of classic songs getting back, Sonu added, “It is really easy to criticise what’s happening in the present. But I will not look down at the present generation or rebuke it. Times are changing and there have been bad songs during my time too. I would rather see the brighter side and appreciate that we have better singers now, business has improved and the original content that we are making is world class.”

Well said Sonu!!!
