MUMBAI: Veteran Actor Satish Shah Passes Away at 74, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Laughter and Warmth

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Satish Shah, who passed away today at the age of 74 due to kidney failure. The news has left fans and colleagues heartbroken, marking the end of an era for Indian television and cinema.

A stalwart of comedy and character acting, Satish Shah carved a niche for himself with his impeccable timing and effortless screen presence. Over the decades, he became a household name through iconic roles in shows and films that continue to be cherished by audiences across generations.

From his unforgettable performances in ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’, and the cult classic ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, to memorable appearances in blockbusters like ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, ‘Fanaa’, and ‘Om Shanti Om’, Satish Shah’s contribution to entertainment has been nothing short of extraordinary.

In 2008, he also showcased his sharp wit and charm as a co-judge on ‘Comedy Circus’ alongside Archana Puran Singh. His last on-screen appearance was in the 2014 film ‘Humshakals’.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the heartbreaking news on social media, writing:

“Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has expired a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”

Comedian and close friend Johny Lever also paid a touching tribute, saying:

“Feeling extremely sad to share that we’ve lost a great artist and my dearest friend of over 40 years. It’s hard to believe—I had spoken to him just two days ago. Satish Bhai, you will truly be missed. Your immense contribution to film and television will never be forgotten.”

Satish Shah’s passing marks the loss of one of India’s finest comic talents — a performer whose work brought joy, laughter, and warmth to millions.
